City to Use Specialized Equipment to Collect Data for Mobility Plan

The City of Fayetteville will be conducting traffic, bicycle, and pedestrian counts Tuesday, March 7 through Wednesday, March 8 to gather data to support the Fayetteville Mobility Plan. The plan includes development of transportation improvements on corridors within the City, including Wedington Drive, College Avenue, School Avenue, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Dickson Street, and Gregg Avenue. The collected data will be used to refine recommendations along these corridors for transit, bicycle, pedestrian, and vehicle transportation networks.

Traffic counting equipment will be temporarily installed on streetlights and sign poles at various locations along the corridors. The City is using specialized video cameras for data collection. The equipment records vehicle movement, as well as pedestrian and bike movements, and does not have the capability to record personal information such as license plates or determine the identity of drivers, passengers, or pedestrians.
