City to Remove Temporary Mini-Roundabout at School and Spring

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The yield signs and temporary “mini roundabout,” located at the intersection of W. Spring Street and N. School Avenue (adjacent to the Spring Street Parking Deck), will be removed on Tuesday, March 21. The intersection will return to a four-way stop and stop signs will be re-installed. Please use care and watch for personnel and equipment when traveling in the area.

Using strategies learned in a recent Tactical Urbanism workshop, City staff collaborated with community stakeholders and “Travel With Care NWA” to create a low-cost and temporary intersection modification that was installed on January 26, 2017. One purpose for the project was to raise awareness of different travel modes – including cyclists and pedestrians and to advance goals related to active public space.

The City’s Transportation, Engineering, and Sustainability departments observed the intersection prior to the installation, during the installation and again – after modifications were made to improve safety and pass-ability. The City issued a survey to gather public feedback; the survey will remain open until Friday, March 24. City staff will compile information and issue a report of observations and survey results next week.

In the meantime, please be safe and come to a full stop before proceeding through the W. Spring Street and N. School Avenue intersection
