Fire Department Invites Public to Unique Double Christening of New Trucks

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Fayetteville Fire Department invites the public to join them for the double christening of the City’s two newest firefighting apparatus, Engine 1 and Rescue 1.  The event will take place at Fire Station #1 (303 W. Center Street) on Monday, July 24 at 4:30 p.m.

These new pumpers are built on a Pierce Arrow XT cab with heavy-duty narrow chassis for a maneuverable fire truck in tight narrow city streets. They include a rugged all-metal interior for long term durability. The rescue pumper is custom-designed from Fayetteville’s specifications to carry all types of rescue equipment as well as structural firefighting hoses, nozzles, and ladders.

The Fire Department’s Apparatus Committee developed the specifications for the new specialized fire trucks. Endless hours were spent in meetings – discussing various options and the committee “built” the truck from the ground up, on paper. This process and the committee’s tireless attention to detail has assured the City of getting the necessary required equipment, at the lowest cost possible. The committee was led by Assistant Chief Harley Hunt and included Larry Balding, Levi Crandell, Andrew Horton, Eddie King, Ryan Lewis, Chris Reibert, Willie Watts, and Shane Wood.

Please join Mayor Lioneld Jordan and the Fayetteville Firefighters as we uncouple the hose, ring the bell, and push the new fire truck backward into the Fire House, just like we used to do the new horses.
